Autumn has arrived, and with it, a wonderful mix of colour, creativity, and curiosity! 🍁
At Lutley Nursery in Halesowen, we’ve been making the most of the season with a range of fun, hands-on activities that help our children explore, learn, and enjoy the world around them.
Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to this autumn term!
🍂 Exploring the Great Outdoors
The children have loved spending time outside, wrapped up warm in their coats and wellies, exploring the changing season.
We’ve been on nature walks around our outdoor area, collecting colourful leaves, twigs, and conkers to use in our classroom activities.
Our little explorers have enjoyed:
- Spotting signs of autumn like squirrels, acorns, and crunchy leaves
- Talking about the weather and changes in nature
- Using magnifying glasses to look closely at what they find
It’s been a fantastic way to encourage curiosity and early science skills!
🎨 Autumn-Inspired Arts and Crafts
Back inside, our creative activities have been full of autumn colour! The children have been busy making:
- Leaf collages and handprint trees
- Pumpkin and hedgehog paintings
- Autumn wreaths to decorate our nursery walls
These projects aren’t just fun — they help develop fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, and creativity. Plus, our nursery has never looked so bright and cheerful!
🎃 Celebrating Autumn Events
We’ve had lots of fun marking special events this term too. Highlights have included:
- Harvest Festival activities, where we learned about sharing and gratitude
- Pumpkin Week, full of messy sensory play and counting games
- A Halloween dress-up day, where the children came in fantastic costumes and enjoyed spooky-themed crafts and songs
Every activity is carefully planned to mix fun with learning, helping children build confidence and social skills.
🍎 Learning Through Play
At Lutley Kindergarten, play is at the heart of everything we do.
This term, our learning themes have included:
- Autumn animals – exploring how hedgehogs and squirrels prepare for winter
- Counting and sorting games with conkers and pinecones
- Storytime sessions with autumn-themed books like We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt
Our staff love seeing how the children’s imaginations come alive through play-based learning.
🌧️ Embracing Every Weather
A little rain never stops us! The children have had great fun jumping in puddles, using umbrellas, and talking about how rain helps plants grow. Outdoor play in all weathers helps build resilience and independence — and lots of laughter too!
📚 Building Friendships and Confidence
It’s been wonderful to see our children growing in confidence this term. Whether they’re working together on a craft project or sharing a story at circle time, they’re learning how to communicate, take turns, and show kindness to their friends.
At Lutley Kindergarten, we’re so proud of how everyone is settling in and developing their own personalities and interests.
💛 A Wonderful Start to the School Year
As our autumn term comes to an end, we’d like to say a huge thank you to all our families for your continued support. We’ve had such a fun and rewarding few months and can’t wait to see what the winter term brings!
