Learning Through Play, Every Day
At Lutley Kindergarten, we believe that young children learn best through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is built around the Development Matters guidance — helping every child to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for lifelong learning.
Every child is unique, and our teaching reflects this. Activities are planned around each child’s interests, abilities, and stage of development, creating a balance of structured learning and free play in a safe, nurturing environment.

The EYFS Framework
Building Strong Foundations
Our curriculum is carefully designed around the seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS.
The Three Prime Areas that are essential for children’s healthy development and future learning:
Physical Development
Improving coordination, balance, and fine motor skills through active play and movement.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
Building confidence, independence, and positive relationships.
Communication and Language
Developing speaking, listening, and understanding through stories, conversation, and play..
The Four Specific Areas These strengthen and extend children’s learning:
Literacy
Early reading and writing skills through stories, mark-making, and phonics play.
Mathematics
Understanding numbers, shapes, and patterns through practical activities
Understanding the World
Exploring people, places, and nature to build curiosity about the world around them.
Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Encouraging creativity through music, dance, art, and imaginative play.
How We Plan and Support Learning
Learning That Follows Each Child
Our staff observe, plan, and review activities regularly to ensure that each child’s individual needs and interests are met.
We encourage children to follow their curiosity — whether they’re building towers, exploring outdoors, painting, or role-playing with friends.
Every child has their own learning journey, where progress and achievements are recorded and shared with parents.
We aim to create an inclusive environment where all children, including those with additional needs, can learn and develop at their own pace with the right support in place.

Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Activities
Experiences That Inspire and Excite
In addition to our daily curriculum, we invite visitors and specialists to enrich the children’s experiences and help them discover new interests.
Regular enrichment activities include:
- 🎵 Music Bugs – fun, interactive music and movement sessions.
- 🐾 Animal Antics – hands-on learning about animals, their habitats, and care.
- ⚽ Sports Clubs – developing teamwork, coordination, and a love for physical activity.
We also enjoy seasonal events and cultural celebrations that reflect modern Britain today, to help children feel part of the wider community.
Outdoor Learning
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Outdoor play is an essential part of our curriculum. Our secure garden area allows children to explore nature, develop gross motor skills, and build confidence in the world around them.
From bug hunts and sand play to imaginative games and team activities, we make the most of outdoor learning in every season including
🌲 Visiting Forest School at Lutley Primary – exploring nature, building confidence, and learning through outdoor play
🚶♀️ Walks around the local area – discovering the community, developing independence, and enjoying fresh air

Preparing for School
Confident, Curious, and Ready for the Next Step.
By the time children leave Lutley Kindergarten, they are well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.
Through play-based learning and consistent encouragement, we help every child develop independence, emotional resilience, and a sense of pride in their achievements — giving them the confidence to take their next step into school life.
Parent Partnerships in Learning
Working Together to Support Every Child
We work closely with parents to share progress, celebrate milestones, and plan the next steps in learning.
Parents receive regular updates through newsletters, learning journeys, and consultation meetings, ensuring we work together to give each child the best start possible.

We understand choosing the right start for your little one is a big decision, we are happy to help with any questions.
